How To Reduce Light Pollution
Have you ever looked over a city at night and wondered, where are all the stars? Instead you see an amberish glow of the city beneath? This is called light pollution and it has a bigger impact than you think.
Before we can discuss the ways to reduce light pollution we must first understand what it is. Darksky.org defines it as, “The inappropriate or excessive use of artificial light – known as light pollution – can have serious environmental consequences for humans, wildlife, and our climate.”
They go on to say that “Light pollution is a side effect of industrial civilization.” Which impacts us by overpowering the darkness and disrupting the natural day-night pattern affecting the environment and all that are around it. National Geographic says that, “light pollution is a global issue” and that it “can wreak havoc on natural body rhythms in both humans and animals.”
With that said, it is in our best interest to do what we can to reduce the amount of light pollution and help our environment!
