Bio Flow Pool Deck Project - 2025 AGT™ Glow Art Project Honorable Mention

This project is one of the 2025 Glow Project Photo Contest Honorable Mentions

Bio Flow Pool Deck Project night view

The "Bio Flow" pool deck is one of the most artistically ambitious projects submitted to the 2025 AGT™ Glow Project Photo Contest. Rather than using glow rocks as a scattered surface treatment, this project uses them as the medium for a full-scale landscape design, organic, vein-like channels cut into the concrete deck and densely seeded with AGT™ Ultra Grade Glow Rocks to create the appearance of bioluminescent currents flowing naturally around the pool.

The result is a backyard that functions as a living gallery after dark. The flowing patterns wind around the pool, branching and reconnecting like the movement of lit water, with the deep contrast between the dark concrete surface and the vivid AGT™ Aqua Blue and Sky Blue Glow Stones making every line feel intentional. String lights above add warmth, but the glow stones carry the visual story.

How a Project Like This Is Built

What makes the Bio Flow Art Project particularly interesting from a technical standpoint is the combination of two installation approaches working together.

The channeled vein pattern uses the stamped concrete method in which premade shapes are pressed out in the wet concrete slab, and AGT™ Ultra Glow StonesAGT™ ULTRA-X Glow Stones are seeded directly into those cut-out areas using a light frame template to keep placement precise. Once seeded, the stones are gently troweled into the surface. A concrete retarder is then applied and, after the slab cures, the surface is pressure washed to expose the aggregate and allow the glow stones to receive full daylight charging.

The broader deck area surrounding the channels uses the exposed aggregate method in which AGT™ Glow Rocks seeded across the freshly poured concrete, troweled flush, treated with retarder, and pressure washed to expose the stones once the slab has cured. Together, the two techniques produce a surface that reads as a unified design while giving each zone its own texture and glow density.

The Aggregate Selection

The four-product blend used here is well chosen for this concept. AGT™ Aqua Blue and Sky Blue Ultra Grade Glow Stones provide the primary glow that is bright, photoluminescent, and long-lasting. The AGT™ ULTRA-X Glow Stones in Aqua Blue & AGT™ ULTRA-X Glow Stones in Sky Blue rocks work together to create a striking blend of cool and warm blue tones, adding depth and dimension to the design. The result is a rich, multi-toned glow that closely resembles the soft shimmer of natural bioluminescence.

The contrast between the dark concrete deck and the vibrant aggregate is what gives this project its impact. A lighter base would have diffused that contrast. The dark surface makes every glow point read individually, which is exactly what the design requires.
